Can anyone help me wih my puppy problems???

I adopted a puppy (a Tennessee Treeing Mountain Cur) to help my other dog (that I also adopted) come out of her shell however the new puppy is extremely dominant and destructive. She tears up bags of charcoal, potting soil, diggs up the yard chews up shoes she even chewed a hole in my wall she went almost clean through it. Not one day goes by that she doesnt destroy something. On top of that my other dog and my cat are always covered in sores from my puppies constant need to "play" with them. Ive tried telling her no putting her in a kennel hideing treats around the house to amuse her I cant seem to get a leg up on this dog..I know hunting dogs are different than normal dogs and If I'd have known her breed I wouldnt have taken her but shes here and we love her. So I need to find a happy medium between her need to hunt and my need not to have a torn up home and yard.

Can anyone help me wih my puppy problems???
Exercising the puppy regularly will do a great deal. Any dog that is destructive needs an outlet such as exercising. Plus you have a puppy who will bite for play, because they are teething and many other things.


Try to exercise the dog more, we have a puppy right now and she loves to bite and pee all over everything but she doesn't tear anything up and we exercise her as much as possible... Good luck!

You must always research a dog breed BEFORE bringing the dog home. It is O.K. if you have nothing to do but train the dogs 24/7. But most people have to work.





You don't say how old she is.......It is obvious she has never had any training and has learned a lot of bad habits. I could not tolerate it myself. I feel badly for the poor dog. It is a sin to treat a animal like that. It just takes an incredible amount of time to undo everything and re train her.





Good Luck to you. I made sure I researched my dogs. All of us have experienced what you are going thru right now. It will never happen to me again. My boys are perfect for me. I wish you could return her or find her a good home. You don't get another dog to bring your present dog out of being shy or withdrawn.








EDIT: PLEASE don't listen to "JAYBIRD". Do not hit your dogs. Do not hit anything that breathes. She should be turned in to animal cruelty for that. You never hit anything or anyone. You will create a monster for sure if you start hitting that poor, confused dog.....

Reply:Since you also indicate that you have problems with your first dog "help come out of her shell", you need to attend obedience classes and learn about dog behavior. It is not unusual at all for a puppy to be as active as you describe and they are easy to control once you learn about dog behavior and training techniques. I'm not going to give you any one shot answers as this will not help you correct behavior down the line. I'm sure you know not to hit the dog as one answerer suggested. You should never ever do anything to a dog that will cause it to fear you.
Reply:Enroll your dog in a training program. When they say hunting dogs need exercise, they weren't lying. Take her for walks. Try teaching her basic commands like "sit", "stay", ect.

Then, go to yahoo.com and search "Iamsdog breed guide" Once there, with your list of breeds you can go down the list and find the correctbreed for you.
Reply:Try this spray I have for my new shoes, my dog knows better but she can't help it when it is my new shoes so I spray this spray on them but you may want to spray it on your dogs esp. the dog that is a mess around his nose %26amp; mouth area so he won't touch anything because he will always be smelling it. It is harmless but I can't remember the name of it. sry it is in a white bottle with colored letters...I think green
