I'm thinking of getting a pet baby squirrrel (HIPPIES AND TREE-HUGGERS NEED NOT REPLY)?

i%26#039;m going to buy a pet squrriel, and want to know from other people whom they%26#039;ve bought their pets at. i have a few sellers in mind. my mind is set, I%26#039;M GOING TO BUY A BABY SQUIRREL.

p.s. if any tree huggers or hippies reply i will personally kick you in the face, push you down on the ground, take all your money and a shoe.

I%26#039;m thinking of getting a pet baby squirrrel (HIPPIES AND TREE-HUGGERS NEED NOT REPLY)?
Try checking on Sugar Gliders (flying squirrels), we had one named Foxy. You can hold them, because they are about the size of a hand. Foxy liked her large cage alot, which you can buy extra items for the cage. They are cute little creatures. We found ours at a local pet store, the cost is about $400, but we got lucky, the day we went Foxy was half-price. Pet squirrels are also fun to have, but not as fun as a Sugar Glider!!
Reply:Do your research- pro and CON! It is easy to dismiss the problems a pet like this can cause and just focus on the cute stuff.

What will you do when it is larger and needs a big cage? How will you deal with the fact that no matter how social it may be as a baby, it will NOT be social with you as an adult? Are you prepared for the various medical issues involved- mites, parasites, bites, etc.?

There is a reason that some animals just never quite %26#039;make it%26#039; as popular pets- and squirrels are a good example of this.

I am not a hippie or a tree-hugger.

I AM however a firm believer in not being an idiot when looking for pets. Thousands of people buy the wrong pets for their situation, fooling themselves into thinking that somehow it will be OK- and the pet suffers for it.

Please- for your sake and the sake of the animal- THINK THIS OVER CAREFULLY.
Reply:I hope it bites you. squirrels are not domesticated animals. sooner or later they will bite you. then you will kill it and thats it for the pet squirrel.
Reply:Don%26#039;t get 1 yhey are not good pets and it%26#039;s not good to take them from the wild(if their parents died take really good care of it!!) u guessed it i m a tree hugger get a sugar glider at a pet store instead of taking 1 from the wild
Reply:I had a baby squirrel they are so cute but mine was wild. So I dont know where you could get one I always heard that you had to have a licence to have one. And dont be mean to hippies they are pretty cool I dont know about tree huggers Well good luck with your new pet
Reply:hey, i didnt know they sold squirrels, i used to raise them when they fell out of trees and then release at around 12 weeks, if you need help on what to do write and ask me, more than likely your getting one thats already weened, have fun. they are pretty affectionate! mine were more friendly when i had one at a time.
Reply:They are some work, especially the burrowing in furniture and the high pitched ssqueel when they want food or attention. Be very careful where you buy, I%26#039;ve gotten sick ones that died in a week and got my other animals sick also, so research and good luck.
Reply:im not a hippie or treehugger, but i would love to see you come through the computer and do all that stuff.
Reply:Oh, I love squirrels! Their sooooooooo cute! Don%26#039;t worry I%26#039;m not a hippie or tree-hugger. Good Luck with your squirrel.
Reply:That is awesome, I never knew that you have a squirrel as a pet, I feed the ones in my yard and the ones at work but one of my own would rock!!!
Reply:They live for four years. I would wonder why they are selling them - they are difficult to keep. Anyway, here%26#039;s a link with some information - the main thing seems to be that you need a very large cage, and they can%26#039;t hibernate in captivity which causes heart problems.

You say you are only getting one? The link says that they are very sociable and should be raised in pairs, that would be twice as expensive to feed. I suppose one squirrel is as much use as one shoe - to a squirrel : )
Reply:You%26#039;re a loser...nice threats btw
Reply:U should try the vet%26#039;s because I work 4 a vet and we get baby squirrels in all the time. People bring them in cause they were in their yard and r 2 small 2 fend 4 themselves and need 2 be bottle fed. We always know when it is spring cause the kittens and squirrels come in that were abandoned. U can even set them free in ur backyard(when they r old enough) the girl I work with has released 5 and they come by twice a day for a snack its cute.
Reply:I didn%26#039;t know it was legal to own a squirrel. I had one as a child and it was tame, we fed it nuts. I think a vet could fix you up with a formula if they are legal.
Reply:Wow, maybe you should try to get a poisonous snake, with all the venom you have saved up!

I don%26#039;t routinely hug trees, but I just wonder why you would want a squirrel? Is it just because they are cute, because you don%26#039;t seem to know too much about them. Can you provide the kind of home that a grown squirrel will require? I%26#039;m just asking that you consider ALL points of view. Most intelligent people with common sense will evaluate ALL of the pros and cons, and possible scenarios, and think logically about making such a decision.

You, on the other hand, seem to be much like those teenagers on Jerry Springer, who are determined to have a baby, and just threaten everyone who thinks that they shouldn%26#039;t. Grown ups just don%26#039;t act like that.

If I were a breeder, I wouldn%26#039;t sell a pet to you for any amount, because you refuse to listen to other opinions. Good breeders of any animal interview the buyer, to make sure that they have considered all options.

I wish the squirrels good luck in avoiding your grasp!
Reply:OMG! I really want a baby squirrel too! But where do you get one?
Reply:i agree a little with buscemibabe but i am american and that would be cool to have a pet squirrrel, but isnt it illegal???
Reply:aww that is too cute
Reply:One word...Rabies. But they are damn cute when they foam, get all disoriented and fly at ur face to rip it off...awwe.
Reply:Maybe you should see if it%26#039;s legal first? It is usually not legal to have a pet that is a native wild animal to your area. You may want to check on getting a permit.
Reply:Um, I%26#039;m not a hippie or a tree-hugger--I don%26#039;t think. I guess those terms are somewhat subjective, so I guess it%26#039;s all in how you define the term. I am, however, an animal lover, so I apologize if that puts me in the categories noted above.

My only suggestion is that it can be a difficult experience attempting to tame a wild animal. Although they%26#039;re very cute, squirrels are rodents, and tend to carry disease. Also, because they don%26#039;t have the years of selective breeding that domesticated animals have, their instincts are much more along the lines of those of a wild animal than a domesticated one. Squirrels, believe it or not, have nasty bites. Also, many cities have laws prohibiting ownership of a wild animal; you%26#039;ll probably want to check with your local Humane Society to see what the regulations are in your area.
Reply:You are getting a squirell they need to live in their home in the trees not in peoples houses. You need to respect the envioment don%26#039;t be crul to animals let them live in their home, the trees.
Reply:Squirrels are really cute, especially when young, but you have to keep in mind that once they grow, they don%26#039;t make very good pets. They run EXTREMELY FAST and are almost impossible to catch once out of your hands. They can even climb on to your ceiling if you have wood paneling. AND, they must ALWAYS be handled with gloves. Their claws are SO sharp they will cut you even if you are just holding them. Once you%26#039;ve considered all this. You can keep a squirrel and even train it to come to you if you have a treat. But in the long run, you may be disappointed with your new pet. Most people i know who have had one, end up releasing them in the wild once they are grown (which is bad for a squirrel who doesn%26#039;t know how to find its own food). All negativity aside, it can be done if you really really want to. My friend who had a pet squirrel actually loved it very very much before releasing it in the wild.

GOOD LUCK!
