HELP! Found a baby Sparrow in the yard, Real little Eyes Still Closed. HOW DO I Feed IT?

When I got back from my bike ride with the kids, I found a baby sparrow. I located the nest. But It was at the very very top of the tree. No way to get to it. So I put it in a small basket and Put it as high in the tree as I could. We waited till today and watch from the windows to see if the mom would feed it. She didn%26#039;t even look at the baby bird. She feed her others, but didn%26#039;t go near the basket. So I took it to the local Vet,( told them the above story). Tried to give them the bird but they would not take it. ( they said it would be up to the mohter bird if it lived or died.) No help there.

I put the bird in a shoe box with a soft cloth, and put a heating pad in a larger box with a towl over it . The put the shoe box and baby bird in that box on the heating pad.

I ordered some Exact baby bird food and it will get here tomorrow I hope. But in the meantime what do I do? What should I feed ? Should I even feed it anything? It is a very young bird.

Thank you for any help

HELP! Found a baby Sparrow in the yard, Real little Eyes Still Closed. HOW DO I Feed IT?
Dear T.LC.-It is awsome that there is another animal person in this world -to take care of the wild creature%26#039;s on this earth-I live by a lake and alway%26#039;s find baby bird%26#039;s and large bird%26#039;s that have been wind battered! Please do-not listen to the negative people out their!! you are to be praised that you CARE. so to feed your baby ,first you need to get some baby pablum -make it a little thick, but not so much that the bird gages!- this will give the little one a full tummy until your order comes in! Also a sick as this sound%26#039;s you must go outside and dig up some worms!-you will not have to dig deep -to help this little one also put on some soft music and keep her warm enough so that the little one think,s it is still in the nest .Also get a small stuffy -The little one will die if it is alone-do-not worry about the stuffy I%26#039;m sure you can get another one !! About the worm%26#039;s you must crush them into the pablum!! Place the stuffy right beside the little one so it thinks their is a sibling beside it!! this will calm down the little one and give it a strong sense of security. SO T.L.C you are to be congratulated for your strong sense of doing what you feel is right -instead of allowing this little one to die as so many do all the time!!-So YOU GO GIRL.
Reply:give them tortilla with water but the tortilla has to be the small round 1 not the big ones thats what i gave my baby bird when he was small but you have to crush the tortilla with your fingers but 1 wash your hands only because they are animales you wont wash your hands Report It

Reply:There are a lot of solutions

1)Put bird back to nest by hitting the nest on the tree to bring all babies down.

2)Kill the mother

3)If bird is dead --- throw

4)Wait for bird to die---throw

5)Learn to climb a tree

6)make a long pole to put bird.

7)Force mouth open to feed milk/worms for bird
Reply:Feed it to the dog
Reply:i highly recomrnd that you call a local wildlife rescue( usually found in the phone book ) and talk to them. them may have the food( something simalar to cornmeal i think, fed with a syringe) on hand already and may even be able to take care of the chick. another item that has been used is gerber baby food rice/corn cereal, watered down and fed with a syringe. hope this helps.
Reply:feed it chewed worms
Reply:Get some cooked rice and see if it eat on its own if not gently open its beak and feed it
Reply:Same thing recenlt happened to me, for the first few days if it%26#039;s healthy enough, try a meaty baby food with a straw that%26#039;s been cut down the middle, and kinda shaped like a spoon.

If he keeps getting better try feeding him wet bread and raw ground beef, in little amounts. It%26#039;s the closest thing to worms I could think of.

And sooner or later you%26#039;re going to need to get vitamins in him, so pick up a baby, or childrens vitamin and crush it up and put it into what ever your feeding him.

Just don%26#039;t over dose him on the vitamins
Reply:what %26#039;s a ferrow
Reply:Call your local wildlife rescue organization. If you attempt to feed the bird without making the food the right temperature, you could kill it. Their workers are specially trained and know what to do. Call NOW!

And if you have to give the bird to them, make a donation, however small.
Reply:Try locating your local wildlife center. Where I live we are always finding baby birds and take them to our wildlife center. The people are very helpful and know what they are doing when it comes to wild animals. This is your best bet. If you do have a wildlife center please give the bird to them and do not keep it. Wild animals do not live long in captivity.
